Miranda IM ist ein universeller Instant Messenger (sofortiger Nachrichtenübermittler), der als ein „Open Source“-Projekt entwickelt und verbessert wird. Das Programm stellt eine sehr gute Alternative zu den Originalprogrammen der Messenger-Anbieter dar. Miranda IM unterstützt dabei die Protokolle ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, IRC, Gadu-Gadu, Tlen, Netsend und weitere. Das Programm funktioniert unter allen aktuellen Windows-Versionen. Zusätzlich ist Miranda Ressourcen sparend und durch Plugins (Funktionserweiterungen) individuell erweiterbar.
