avast! Home ist ein kostenloses Anti-Viren-Paket mit professioneller Ausstattung. Sein Kernel spürt nicht nur verbreitete Viren zuverlässig auf, sondern liefert inzwischen auch recht gute Erkennungsraten für Trojaner. Aus der Benutzeroberfläche heraus lassen sich Scan-Vorgänge von Hand starten, Scan-Ergebnisse einsehen und Einstellungen anpassungen - etwa die Intensität der Prüfung. Letztere sollte man unbedingt auf "hoch" setzen. Performance-Verluste gibt es dabei fast keine zu beklagen, die Erkennungsrate dagegen steigt erheblich.


Ein Hintergrund-Scanner entdeckt Malware in Echtzeit, noch bevor sie Schaden auf dem Rechner anrichten kann. Dieser Schutz bezieht sich sowohl auf das Datei-System als auf abonnierte News-Feeds. Sogar eingehende E-Mails nimmt avast! unter die Lupe. Dabei kommen neben generischen, codebasierten Scans auch heuristische, verhaltensbezogene Routinen zur Anwendung. Ein Plugin bietet zusätzliche Absicherung für Outlook.

  • Avast should now work flawlessly with Windows Vista beta 2 and
    higher (Vista beta 2 will be released in the first half of May, i.e. in
    about 3 weeks); unfortunately, in beta1 + CTP builds <= 5342 there
    still can be serious OS stability issues
